Clogged Up Lake

Big changes are in store at a local lake - but it's not because of the water. It seems grass is a growing problem - literally.

80 percent of Lake Rowena is clogged up because of grass now borough officials are planning to drain it.

Dan Penatzer, the borough manager said, “We’re going to lower the level by 60 percent in October and it will remain down through the winter and in February or March we'll allow it to fill back up again.”

The plan to lower the water level will work the same way you drain a kitchen sink - and officials are concerned about being able to close the valve once they open it.

Penatzer said, “We may have some repairs to the valve once we've got it open we're not going to know it really until we open that valve though.”

The last time the lake was lowered was in the eighties- not because of grass but back then many wondered what would happen to the fish - like they do now.

Officials say the fish population should not be affected once the lake is lowered.
