BROOKVILLE, Pa. --
Closing arguments have begun in the double murder trial of a Cameron County man charged with robbing a couple in their home in April 2010.
After hearing those arguments Tuesday, the Jefferson County jury must determine whether 46-year-old Steven Rebert is guilty of robbing and killing James and Victoria Shugar, both 61. The couple was found fatally shot April 12, 2010 inside their Snyder Township home.
If Rebert is convicted of first-degree murder, the jury must then decide whether the Emporium man deserves the death penalty or life in prison.
State police say Rebert stole the couple's rare currency collection and had some of the money with him when he was arrested about two months later. Police say Rebert later told a cellmate he killed the couple for money.
