Closing Of Bon Secours-Holy Family Hospital Expected By Fall 2010

Officials at Altoona Regional Health System said they're hoping to improve efficiency and care for patients by moving services onto their main campus.

Chief Operating Officer Ron McConnell told WJACTV.com that means closing Bon Secours-Holy Family hospital.

A full merger is expected by fall of 2010.

The Blair County commissioners helped move the process along by approving tax exempt bonds in the amount of $70 million for the hospital to build upon the campus.

McConnell said the merge should only cost $45 million.

After the merger, out-patient procedures will take place at Station Medical Center.

McConnell said they will building a new intensive care unit and improving their emergency room department.
