Cold Weather Helping Some Business

By Rich Wisniewski

DUBOIS, Pa —

Temperatures in the single digits is not only bad for a person, but cars can suffer from this weather too. More specifically, car batteries.

At Mottman's Towing, based out of DuBois, workers say the last few days have been pretty busy.

"We been taken a lot of calls to go out and jump start batteries," said Cindy Rolls, who works at Mottman's.

Car batteries dying in cold weather is nothing knew or out of the ordinary, but for the most part it can be prevented. Car experts explain that when it comes to car batteries, age is a factor. In most cases, the lifespan of a car battery is five years. If you don't get it replaced after that, your taken a big risk. Some would argue to not even let it get to that five year mark, and to replace it as soon as possible, especially if you have an older car.

But tow companies advise drivers to take it to a pro if you have any doubts.

"If you take it to a garage, they will inspect it," said Rolls, "they will be able to test out your battery and see if you should get a new one."
