PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. —

Comet Market in Punxsutawney has been a part of the community for 50 years.

Employees told 6 News the store has had its fair share of up's and down's over the years.

Sadly, with the downturn in the economy the store is being forced to close.

Management officials told 6 News that roughly 25 full-time and part-time employees will be out of a job.

There is no set date for when the store will close for good.

Comet Market opened in 1963 and for employee John Stellabuto, he never imagined that he would be looking for another job at 75 years old.

"There has never been a day that I haven't enjoyed working in produce. The best part of the job is all the people I got to meet, and still the people that I've known for 50 years almost," Stellabuto said.

Monday afternoon residents filled the aisles at the grocery store trying to snag what they could before it's gone.

Management officials told 6 News everything in the store is 20 percent off excluding tobacco and milk.

Officials said the shelves won't be restocked. Besides milk, bread, and meat once it's gone, it's gone.

"Everybody is like family. Everybody is family here. Everyone takes care of each other here and that's one sad thing about it going," said employee Angela Webster.
