EBENSBURG, Pa. —
A planned day reporting center in Cambria County for non-violent criminals has been a controversial topic for residents. Deciding on a location is something that's stirred up emotions from those who live in the Ebensburg community, but the commissioners said they've listened to residents to make their decision.
At the commissioners meeting on Thursday, they announced that the day reporting center will be located on the first floor of the Cambria County services building along Manor Drive in Cambria Township, just outside of Ebensburg Borough. The commissioners said that the Penn State Extension, who currently holds the space, has agreed to move their offices to vacant space on the second floor of the Center for Community Affairs, which is the same building that holds Cambria County 911 on Candlelight Drive in Ebensburg.
The announcement also means that the property on Rowena Drive in Ebensburg that was purchased last year by the former commissioners is no longer an option. On Thursday, the commissioners turned that property over to the county's Industrial Developmental Authority to try to sell.
"We're trying very hard to listen to what the needs are and to best accomplish what the citizens need with the least amount of financial stress," said Cambria County Commissioner Douglas Lengenfelder.
Chief of Staff David Knepper added, "The people can be really assured that this is a good location and that there will be little to say about this."
The commissioners said the moves will cost nothing extra to the county as the moving process will be done by in house employees and inmates from the county prison. The day reporting center is expected to be fully operational by mid March.
