Community Tours and Feedback Move Along State High Upgrade Project

By Stef Davis

STATE COLLEGE, Pa

Dozens of people in State College went back to school Wednesday evening--getting an in-depth look at the conditions of State High. Most not thrilled with what they saw. The biggest concern---no air conditioning.

Ted Graef, SCASD parent, says, “I know I can't concentrate when its 90 degrees, I can't image having to learn in that environment. Also there are electrical cords hanging off the walls. It’s time for an upgrade."

That upgrade has been in the works for years now. But now, its full-steam ahead. Some want to renovate each State High building, others hope to build a new one-building school. One of the biggest pushes for having just one building is the student's current walk to class--one that puts them outside and across Westerly Parkway.

James Graef, 9th grader, State High, says, "I think crossing the street is ridiculous. There are cars. You have to cross two parking lots and a street."

After the tour, a community forum was held--detailing the possible plans for the project and getting as much feedback from the audience as possible.

Bob O’Donnell, SCASD superintendent, says, "We want to make our community understanding as high as possible, but also help us understand the community."
