Confusion concerning men offering amber alert kits

CRESSON, Pa. —

“So I had contacted the state police in Ebensburg and told them I was unaware of any situation where anyone was working with us on the Amber Alert child safety kit and they said they were unaware of it,”  Cresson Township Police officer Vincent Finochio said.

6 News talked to a women who called police after she says two men knocked don her door. She says she was interested in anything to keep her children safe, but wanted to check with police first.

“If this was an Amber Alert thing I thought this is great. I do have minors in my home and would so anything for their safety,”  Heather Oravecz said.

But, this story has taken a twist.

Police as well as 6 News looked into the situation and found out American Income Life sells life insurance and is accredited by the Better Business Bureau.

A spokesperson from the company told police that the salesmen apologized for saying things to people they shouldn’t have

We reached out to American Income life, but didn’t receive an answer.

Police want people to know that if anything suspicious happens, call 9-1-1.

“We would like to suggest to everybody airs on the side of caution whether it is potentially legitimate or not and acquire so we can look into it for them,” Finochio said.
