Congressman To Protect NDIC Future

Cambria County —

Veteran twelfth district Congressman John Murtha says keeping the National Drug Intelligence Center in Johnstown open is one of his top priorities this year. President George Bush has proposed a $23 million funding cut to the agency, leaving only a $17 million budget, that would be used to close the center. Murtha says that will not happen.

"The two agencies that are most involved in this, the Justice Department and the Defense Department both like it. The CIA and the Justice Department both like it, so it's just a matter of working out the details," Murtha said.

Murtha says he is on the committee that authorizes funding for the NDIC, and he is currently working on a new budget proposal.
