Consignment Stores Provide Great Deals On Name Brands

For some, Black Friday is glowing a different color this year: red.

Many people who are pinching pennies this year are finding a way to get great deals on name brands for a fraction of the price.

Nestled in the Valley Dairy Plaza along Scalp Avenue in Johnstown is a top pick for folks with new outfits in mind, but who also lack the green in their wallets to match those designer digs.

Repeat Boutique, a consignment shop, has been open for 12 years.

“I can keep the prices low because I have to stay competitive with the discount stores and I have to help people get more bang for their buck,” said store owner Jessica Wingard.

That “bang for your buck” is $20 to $30 for a business suit, but the store also sells clothing for men, women and infants and nurse uniforms to high-end lines.

“Cache, Bebe, Abercrombie, American Eagle -- high-end things that you cannot find other places,” Wingard said.

She said they’ve seen a rise in business with the downturn in the economy, but they’ve always been busy. The best part is people aren’t just looking for great deals, but they can actually make some holiday cash while they’re at it by bringing in clothes they want to get rid of.

“People bring their gently worn items into the store and get a percentage of the price I sell them at,” she said.

What doesn’t make it through the doors is anything that looks used, stained, ripped or torn. Wingard said just when people thought the bargains couldn’t get much better, the store is also running Black Friday sales.

“Everybody likes something at a lower price.”
