Corbett files new document in lawsuit against NCAA

By WJAC Web Staff and The Associated Press

Gov. Tom Corbett says the NCAA is using his lawsuit against Penn State University sanctions as a way to deflect public criticism of the organization for other failures.

Corbett filed a court document on Monday saying a judge shouldn't dismiss the antitrust lawsuit he filed in January against the NCAA.

In that lawsuit, Corbett claims the NCAA overstepped its boundaries by imposing severe sanctions that could impact commerce in Pennsylvania.

Corbett also said the NCAA's claim that Penn State trustees approved the sanctions is factually incorrect.

The governor said the NCAA --the governing body of college sports -- has been trying to use his lawsuit over its sanctions against Penn State in a child sex abuse scandal to combat a groundswell of public criticism.
