Corbett says he'll meet with Sebelius on Medicaid

By The Associated Press

HARRISBURG, Pa. —

Gov. Tom Corbett said he and U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will meet to discuss issues surrounding a potential expansion of Medicaid in Pennsylvania.

Corbett said Wednesday, however, that he's still concerned about the cost of an expansion of taxpayer-paid health care coverage for hundreds of thousands of low-income Pennsylvanians.

He also said he's not persuaded that he should follow fellow Republicans such as New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Florida Gov. Rick Scott who are supporting an expansion.

The federal government offers an incentive for states to join: It's promising to pay the full cost of the expansion for three years, and at least 90 percent of the cost after that. But Corbett also said the federal government can't always be trusted to deliver on funding promises.
