Crews Removing 17,000 Pounds Of Paper Rolls After Rollover Crash

Crews in Centre County were still cleaning up thousands of pounds of paper rolls after a tractor-trailer rollover crash Wednesday night.

The tractor-trailer crashed on Route 322 near Tussey Ski Mountain, causing the slick highway to be closed for six hours.

Thursday, crews continued the complicated task of removing 17,000 pounds of paper rolls from the crumpled trailer. Workers then plan to turn the trailer upright and tow it away.

Crews said the task is tedious because there are power lines directly overhead. Allegheny Power crews are at the scene and the electric lines have been turned off, but officials said there are still safety concerns. Nearby residents and businesses do have power service.

Pennsylvania Department of Transportation officials said they hope the task will be complete by 3 p.m. Thursday. In the meantime, Route 322 was reduced to one lane near Tussey Ski Mountain. Officials said they hope to keep at least one lane open but both lanes may be intermittently closed for short times to remove the trailer, so drivers should expect delays.

There were no reported injuries in the crash, officials said.
