DA: Bedford Co. Shooting Death Not Believed To Be Random

CUMBERLAND VALLEY TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

While police continue to search for the person who shot and killed a Bedford County man, the district attorney said investigators do not believe the killing was random.

Michael Simpson was killed at his home on Centerville Road in Cumberland Valley Township. Neighbors said they did not hear or see anything out of the ordinary until Pennsylvania State Police arrived at Simpson's home around 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

District Attorney Bill Higgins said neighbors near the crime scene should not be worried.

Neighbor Hazel Stiffler said her niece was Simpson's girlfriend. Stiffler said her niece had tried to call him all day Sunday but couldn't reach him. When she went to Simpson's house to check on him, Stiffler said her niece found him shot to death.

Other neighbors said the father of two lived alone in the house and kept to himself but was a nice man.

It was not known as of noon Tuesday if investigators have a suspect, and state troopers are still investigating the homicide.
