Damaged Elk County Building To Be Repaired

RIDGWAY, Pa. —

It's been three months since a man died trying to escape a fire that badly damaged an Elk County building.

Now construction crews have packed the building, working to bring an important piece of Ridgway's past back to normal.

Business owners said they just didn't think the damage could be repaired. But that's exactly what the owner is doing, hoping to have all the work done by this fall.

The fire not only contributed to the death of a Ridgway man, but it also destroyed several businesses, including a popular restaurant. The building was gutted and its roof collapsed.

Crews are working to make repairs to the businesses on the first floor of the building, so they can reopen their doors. Nearby business owners said they're just glad the building won't be torn down.

The building's owner said repairs on the first floor should be finished in September or October. Then work will start on the upper floors.
