Dangerous Blair County Building To Be Demolished

Altoona city officials have stepped in to speed up the demolition of a dangerous building.

The former Eagles building was weakened by wind and rain throughout the years and the Altoona codes and inspection director condemned it earlier this year.

The fire marshal said once the roof caved in, it was a matter of time for the building to come down. Asbestos testing is scheduled for Thursday and Friday, and demolition for the building should start next week.

If the demolition company doesn't find any lead paint, the project is expected to cost just under $200,000.

The demolition is expected to be complete within two months.
