DEP Decision To Deny Landfill Application Overturned

BOGGS TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A state board has overturned the Department of Environmental Protection's decision to deny an application for a Clearfield County landfill.

The application from PA Waste was denied in 2008, after DEP officials said the company didn't follow the right review procedures.

The decision was overturned by the Pennsylvania Environmental Hearing Board earlier this month.

The proposed landfill caused controversy for years in Boggs Township, located east of Clearfield.

Many residents placed signs in their yard opposing the landfill.

They were relieved when the plan was denied, but Tuesday told WJAC-TV they'll keep fighting against the project.

Officials with PA Waste said they were happy with the decision.

They added that a landfill would help the economy and bring jobs to the area.

DEP officials said they're still not sure how long a new review will take.
