DEP Involved In Mining Development Debate

Cresson —

The Department of Environmental Protection gets a hands-on look Tuesday at the subject of this dispute. It's over 30 acres of land. Some of it is Ray Lundberg's development. Next to it is land the mine could sit on.

Channel 6 News met Ray Lundberg almost a year ago. He says since the news came out that the mine could be his neighbor, interested buyers are backing off. That part of the story Lundberg tells the DEP as they tour the land. He has owned the land for 3 years now. Lundberg and his neighbors say the trucks, dust and noise would be too close to their quiet rural community. The DEP admits there are problems to look into, but no decisions are made yet.

Joel Koricich is a representative of the DEP at Lundberg's development Tuesday. He tells Channel 6 News, "We're in the preliminary stages of the review of the application. So it's just beginning. And there's much more work to do on the application as far as the review process."

Ray Lundberg, the developer, says, "I'm just hoping Amfire sees that they have created a problem here for me and would like to sit down and discuss it with me and try to resolve this that way. They can go on with their plans and I can go on with my plans."

Lundberg is suing the Mining Company, Amfire, for damages. He says Amfire claims there is no problem for his development. Amfire officials have not commented to Channel 6 News yet.
