Donations Needed For St. Marys Fireworks Show

ST. MARYS, Pa. —

Officials are still looking for donations for the annual St. Marys fireworks display.

They're hoping to raise $16,000 for the event.

Officials said they still need around $1,500.

On Thursday, organizers were busy making extra calls to residents to make up the difference.

The display is a local tradition going back around 20 years.

In recent years, organizers admit the economy has made raising money more difficult.

Elk County has been hit hard by the recession, with unemployment into the double digits.

Regardless of how much money is raised, organizers said the fireworks show will go on.

But they admitted it may be scaled back.

The show is scheduled for dusk on Friday at the St. Marys Country Club.
