January 2009 - Haws Pike Fatal Crash

EBENSBURG, Pa. —

A Cambria County woman charged with two counts of vehicular homicide has rejected a plea deal offered to her by prosecutors.

The move means Melody Harris will stand trial for the January 2009 deaths of Todd Black and Richard Facci. Police said they also found cocaine in a diaper bag in Harris' vehicle after the crash on Haws Pike.

Prosecutors said they had been working toward reaching a plea agreement with Harris and have offered her five to 10 years in jail for the charges.

Edelyn Madalura, who was a passenger in Harris' car at the time of the crash, pleaded guilty Thursday to conspiracy charges. As part of Madalura's plea bargain, Madalura admitted her involvement with Harris in possessing the cocaine and transporting it to the Alleghenies from New York.

Prosecutors said jury selection for Harris' trial is expected to start next week. Stay with WJACTV.com, WJAC-TV News and WJACTV.com Mobile for continuing coverage.
