Friends fear human remains are that of missing Meyersdale girl

By Maria Miller

LARIMER TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

People who know Justine Jackson told 6 News Monday they're afraid human remains found along the Great Allegheny Passage are those of the missing teenager.

Jackson disappeared two months ago. Police said she was last seen on a road near the trail in Larimer Township, not too far from Meyersdale. Investigators refuse to say whether the remains are Jackson's and, in fact, are not saying much at all.

A hiker found the remains along the trail Sunday afternoon. Investigators were back there Monday afternoon, searching for more clues.

6 News reporter Maria Miller spent the day talking with people who live in the area. She found they've heard rumors for days that a body had been found. Now they're hoping their fears aren't true.

"She was quiet and kept to herself, pretty much," said Jody Eisentrout, a friend of Jackson's. "She never usually gave anyone problems or anything."

State police said Jackson has been missing since Sept. 14, last seen along Glade City Road.

"I've always seen her walk here along Glade City Road, like every night," said one woman who lives along the road. "When I drive home from town, I see her walking (by herself)."

6 News talked with close friends of Jackson's on Monday who said she had somewhat of a troubled life and would spend a lot of time at a friend's house.

"I guess they found out she was pregnant, and her family just told her to get a job in 24 hours," said Jody Eisentrout. "It's impossible to do that."

"I told her, 'You can stay here,'" said Sarah Eisentrout. "I thought everything was good to go, and next thing I know, I never saw her again."

For the past few weeks, many people around the small town said there were rumors her body had been discovered.

"(I heard) all kinds of stuff," said a woman who did not want to be identified. "I heard last week that they already found her on the bike trail."

"It's just been really hard to grasp," said Sara Eisentrout.

Then, on Sunday, just about a mile up the road from where Jackson lives, human remains were discovered by a hiker. State police said they're very unsure of the identity right now, but her friends can't help but wonder.

"If it is in fact Justine, I'll feel really bad for her family," said Sara Eisentrought. "I just generally feel bad. This is not something that happens in Meyersdale at all."

State police have not confirmed anything. In fact, as of Monday morning, they weren't even sure of the gender.

Police have scheduled a press conference for Tuesday afternoon.
