Ebensburg seeks volunteers for visioning process

By Melanie Gillespie

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. —

Ebensburg is taking initiatives to keep neighbors involved in all of its projects, and are incorporating a temporary committee to help envision its future.

"We're extending the invitation, if you don't take it, you don't step up to the plate, you kind of lose your right to complain," Borough Manager Dan Penatzer said.

That’s why Penatzer is seeking volunteers to turn those complaints into compromises.

Borough officials are asking anyone from business owners to homeowners to share their ideas and keep their town in the know.

"We want to get some additional input. We want the people in town to help us figure out what they think is important," Penatzer said.

Ebensburg had a very good year. They completed million dollar projects and still have money in the bank.

They hope to push the progress by occupying the former county prison, and renting out the upper levels of the Barnes building, but want to keep in mind what is worthy.

"Funding sources are drying up, there's less money to spend on projects like this, so when we spend it, we want to know it’s on the things they want us to be spending on,” Penatzer said.

Officials want to keep priorities in mind, and pride in their hometown.

"If they're talking about their hometown, that's the best town there is, so, that's nothing new to Ebensburg. We should all be anxious to step up and help your hometown, and that's really what this is about."

The borough is looking for anyone, young or old, to help generate ideas.

If you’re interested in volunteering you can contact the borough office at 814-472-8780 or eburg@ebensburgpa.com.
