BENNER TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

State police said eight Penn State students were hurt in a crash on Interstate 99 in Benner Township on Friday night.

According to troopers at the Rockview Barracks, eight Penn State students were in a Honda Pilot that lost control on the northbound lanes near the Bellefonte exit, swerved off the highway and crashed down an embankment around 7 p.m.

First responders declared a mass causality incident and ambulances from across the Centre Region were dispatched.

Authorities said the driver and seven passengers were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center with minor injuries and are expected to be released.
