ALTOONA, Pa. —

A husband and wife died in a car crash in Altoona a day after celebrating their 63rd wedding anniversary, officials said.

Walter Lynam, 82, and his wife, 79-year-old Patricia Lynam, both of Altoona, died in the crash around 4 p.m. Monday.

Blair County Coroner Patty Ross said Walter Lynam, who was driving, did have a medical history but it is not known if a medical incident may have led up to the crash.

Both Walter and Patricia Lynam died of severe blunt force trauma at the scene. The manner of death was ruled accidental, Ross said.

Witnesses told investigators the couple's car was traveling at a high rate of speed along 31st Street approaching the intersection of Union Avenue. The car went through a stop sign and struck the passenger side of the pickup truck, Altoona police said.

Two men in the pickup truck were taken to Altoona Regional Health System, where they were admitted for non-life-threatening injuries. Ross said both men were listed in stable condition as of noon Monday.

Altoona police said the crash remains under investigation and an accident reconstructionist was assigned to the case.

The Lynams are survived by five children.
