ST.MARY'S, Pa. —
Police in Elk County are looking for a man they said defrauded families and businesses in St.Mary's.
Authorities said, Richard Danz, 47, of St.Mary's used his private tax business to steal money from people in Elk County.
According to court documents charges were filed on Aug. 31.
A warrant for his arrest was also filed that day.
According to an affidavit a St.Mary's family told police on July 2 that Danz was their financial advisor.
The family told police that they invested money yearly with HD Vest through Danz.
They told police they usually got monthly statements on investments from HD Vest via mail.
The family told police that they never received their last two checks in April. Instead, they said that Danz deposited the checks into his own account.
According to the affidavit, one check was for $5,000. The other check was for $4,000.
Police said HD Vest was based out of Irving, Texas and its satellite company was operated in St.Mary's through Danz.
Through search warrants police were able to determine that Danz deposited the $9,000 missing money into his account at First Commonwealth Bank.
Through further investigation police determined Danz recently wrote a $9,000 check to a timber company that he owed money to.
According to court documents St.Mary's Auto Body stated they never received money from Danz for repairing his vehicle.
The business told police they made repairs to Danz 2009 Mercedes Benz sedan.
According to the affidavit, Danz told St.Mary's Auto Body that Progressive Insurance would pay them the $3,223.40 for his car repairs.
Police said instead, Danz deposited that money into his account at First Commonwealth Bank.
St.Mary's Auto Body never received the money.
On both incidents Danz was charged with a number of felony grade charges related to thef.
Police are also investigating thousands of dollars that are unaccounted for at the Elk County Humane Society.
According to a search warrant Danz was hired as a financial advisor/ accountant for ECHS on 9/9/08.
Court documents suggest that he resigned on 6/22/12
According to a search warrant Elk County Humane Society's financial assets were $720,506.22.
The Humane Society can only account for $158,759.81 of those assets.
The Humane Society told police they are missing $561,746.55 of their financial assets.
When questioned by the society, Danz was not cooperative and resigned immediately.
According to court documents on 6/23 Danz told the society president, Dave Meier that he could not have further communication with them.
According to an affidavit, Danz had sole access to all of their finances while employed as treasurer and financial advisor/accountant.
According to court documents, between 2009-2010 Danz did a series of wire transfers via a computer from HD Vest.
Police filed for a search warrant seizing numerous of Danz personal items such as cellphones, flash drives and files.
Currently, the Elk County Humane Society told 6 News they are struggling to pay utilities.
According to the PA Securities Commission and PA State Board of Accountancy, Danz was not a certified public accountant in PA and neither was Brock Tax, his business.
Police are searching for Danz.
They tell 6 News they do not believe he is in the area.
The investigation continues on the money that is missing from the Elk County Humane Society, but charges will likely be filed.
Anyone with information on Danz whereabouts should call police in St.Mary's.
The Elk County Humane Society continues to look for donations.
Employees tell 6 News they are looking for monetary donations so they can continue to cover its utilities and purchase office supplies.
