Elk County Catholic High school celebrates 50 years

By Brittany Boyer

ELK COUNTY, Pa. —

Elk County Catholic High School is celebrating 50 years.

The high school is located along Maurus Street in St.Mary's.

"My experience at ECC was so important to me, it really shaped who I am as a person," said Franchesca Stubber.

Stubber graduated from the high school in 2005.  She has since taken on the role as an event planner for the Elk County Catholic School District.

"It's just exciting for me to be able to give back and be here and see all the exciting things that the kids have going on that are even better opportunities than what I had.  I think it will keep getting better," said Stubber.

On Friday students gave tours to those returning to see their old school.

Joe DeSantis, a former faculty member from the high school's first year in 1962 was happy to be back.

"It was very nostalgic coming to a place that started me and my career," he said.

Not only is Elk County Catholic High School celebrating 50 years, but it is also bringing in this new school year with new technology like iPad's for all of its students.

"They didn't have things like that way back when," said DeSantis.

"We just want to make sure that our students are prepared for the future and this is our future.  Technology is our future and we want our kids to have that experience and we think that we really are putting them a step ahead as they move onto their lives after Elk County Catholic," said Stubber.
