Emergency Officials Ready for NYE

By Kerri Corrado

Johnstown, PA —

It is one of the biggest nights to be out, many bringing in the new year and police officials say they are ready!

Slick roads and severe winds from the past snow storms are not the only thing drivers need to keep in mind on New Year's Eve. Drunk Driving is a major concern.

"Johnstown police will be looking for aggressive drivers driving under the influenceof alcohol or a controlled substance," officer Erin Kabler said.

They say they are going to treat NYE like a normal work day, but have crews on call in case accidents or arrests increase.

They also said campaigs for driving under the influence have decreased the number of people driving on NYE, car accidents, and driving under the influence.

A National Organization called Mothers's Against Drunk Driving said, "Drunk Driving is a complex problem, but the solution is simple. Plan ahead for a sober designated driver."

The biggest piece of advice from Johnstown police is to think smart and either call a taxi or get hotel if you have been drinking.
