Emergency responders kept busy due to icy roads

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. —

Emergency responders throughout Clearfield, Jefferson and Elk counties were busy on Wednesday. 

After showers moved across the northern tier, temperatures dropped throughout several areas causing roads to become icy. 

In Clearfield County, 911 dispatchers told 6 News there were at least a half dozen accidents or disabled vehicles due to the icy conditions. 

Roads were also very slick in Elk County.  For a period of time portions of Route 219 and Route 255 were closed due to multiple crashes. 

The area that suffered the worst from the icy conditions was Jefferson County. 

Dispatchers in Jefferson County told 6 News that there were at least 15 crashes throughout the day on Wednesday. 

A portion of Interstate 80 between the Sigel/Brookville exit and the Hazen exit was closed for several hours due to a multi-vehicle accident. 

Emergency officials remind drivers to use caution when the roads are wet and temperatures appear to be below 32 degrees.
