Energy Relief Available At New Johnstown Development

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

There is some relief for the high energy costs, but in order to get the benefit, you're going to have to build a new home.

New condominiums in Richland Township are being built with a product called ICF blocks and homes built with the special blocks will be 2/3 more energy efficient than a regular home.

ICF blocks are made with a compressed Styrofoam instead of the regular concrete and are just as strong.

The ICF blocks are combined with studs that are eight inches apart instead of the standard 16 inch span to give the foundation its strength.

Added with the energy efficient building materials, the homes will be equipped with energy efficient appliances like furnaces.
