BEDFORD, Pa. —

An evangelist has been ordered to stand trial on charges he raped an 11-year-old girl while in Bedford County for a revival meeting.

The Rev. Walter Donald Bradshaw, 61, of Lexington, N.C., has pleaded not guilty to charges including rape of a child and involuntary deviate sexual intercourse. Bradshaw was arrested last month after the girl reported the incident to an adult.

The girl's 51-year-old mother, who is from Bedford County, was also ordered to stand trial after Wednesday's preliminary hearing and remains jailed.

The mother was charged with sexual exploitation of children, unlawful contact with a minor, endangering the welfare of children, criminal solicitation to commit perjury and corruption of minors.

Police said the girl's mother knew or should have known Bradshaw intended to have sex with the girl when her mother left her at the Janey Lynn Motel in Bedford Township. Pennsylvania State Police said the crimes happened sometime between 2007 and into 2008.

The girl was in foster care and now lives with her father. She was allowed to testify with her back to the defendants.
