Everett Residents Could See Tax Increase

Bedford County —

Everett taxpayers are facing a possible doubling of their taxes in the next year or two if the Borough's finances don't change.

The borough had a surplus to cover this year's deficit but officials say there isn't enough money to cover another shortfall. And - that means up to a 50 percent increase in taxes - if changes can't be made soon.

Members say problems include medical and car insurance costs and electricity to light the downtown at night.

Council members held a town meeting Wednesday night to give residents a chance to voice their concerns and offer suggestions to help cut costs. They hope to hold two or three more town meetings before the end of the year.
