Expert Testifies Slain Mother Died Of Stab Wounds, Blunt Force Trauma

Testimony continued in the Joseph Clark murder trial on Tuesday. It was a day in which the Clark's fiance took the stand. Clark is accused of killing Holly Notestine back in 2000.

The day began with an expert forensic pathologist Dr. Mittel taking the stand. He feels Holly Notestine died as a result of multiple stab wounds and blunt force trauma to the head during the homicide. The defense doesn't believe this theory. Clark's attorney Tom Crawford feels Notestine could have died as a result of an accidental blow to the head and falling on a sharp object. Although Dr. Mittel doesn't deny that could have happened he testified that through the evidence, his opinion is Notestine's death was no accident.

Later Clark's fiancee Joan Baum took the stand and part of her testimony was contradictory to what state police say occurred in her original interview. She differed on when the interview with them happened and how many letters from Clark she gave them. Clark and Baum lived apart. He wrote many love letters to her before and after Holly's disappearance. Baum said in those letters that Clark never told her about Holly's disappearance, his interviews with police, and his burned-out car. She says she only found out several weeks later from police.

Also Tuesday, Clark's attorneys tried getting the forensic pathologist testimony thrown out and a mistrial. Both were denied. The defense should start calling its own witnesses Wednesday.
