Extra Officers On Duty For St. Patty’s Day Celebrations In Happy Valley

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —

State College police officials have called in additional officers to handle the expected influx of calls for St. Patrick’s Day.

Just after 10 a.m. Wednesday, WJAC-TV spotted people decked out in green bar hopping throughout Happy Valley.

Dozens of people spent the afternoon drinking green beer at bar patios outside.

Despite St. Patty’s Day falling in the middle of the week, State College Police Lt. Chris Fischel anticipates plenty of people to take advantage of the warmer weather.

"We've had a long winter, it's been very cold,” said Fischel. “People do get cabin fever and they do want to go out and enjoy the warm weather. I can only imagine that it'll inspire people who will want to go out more in the evening."

Although additional officers have been called in and liquor control board officials are expected in town, Fischel doesn’t expect St. Patty’s Day to be as troublesome as State Patty’s Day two weeks ago, when 160 people were arrested.

"Historically, we need extra staffing during the day and night for St. Patrick's Day," said Fischel. "That is the case and we do have extra people."
