The Families of Flight 93 charity has named Gordon Felt to be its new president.

The groups said in a release Monday that Felt, of Remsen, N.Y., succeeds Patrick White, who will become vice president.

The Families of Flight 93 is a charitable organization dedicated to the creation and completion of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Somerset County.

The memorial in Shanksville marks the area where a hijacked United Airlines jet crashed in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Investigators determined the hijackers likely planned to crash the plane in Washington, D.C., but were thwarted when the 40 passengers and crew fought back.

All 33 passengers and seven crew members died.

About 400,000 people visit the memorial each year.
