CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. —

Friends and family plan to protest Monday on the steps of the Centre County Courthouse in hopes of getting a father out of jail long enough to say his final goodbye to his young child.

Christine Spicer's 2-year-old daughter, Alexa, died on Oct. 4 when a television fell on her head. The injury caused internal bleeding that doctors could not stop.

The toddler's father is in the Centre County Prison for a probation violation, but Spicer said law enforcement won't let him go to his daughter's funeral.

Spicer, a Bellefonte native, said the reason is because the funeral is Tuesday at 10 a.m. -- the same day Jerry Sandusky will be sentenced -- and there aren't enough officers to escort him.

"There's no words to describe what I'm feeling," Spicer said. "I'm angry. I'm depressed. I'm just lonely and sad."

She said all she wants is for Alexa's dad to be able to attend the funeral.

"He needs closure. He's not going to get it in jail, and it's not going to help him psychologically, physically or emotionally," Spicer said.
