DUBOIS, Pa. —
A Clearfield County family is mourning the death of their son this week during a military exercise in Nevada.
Josh Martino, 19, a 2012 graduate of Dubois High School, was one of seven Marines killed in the training exercise.
A lifelong friend says Martino was a fun-loving person who worked hard at everything he did. Tanner Gooden said Martino's dream was always to serve in the Marine Corps.
"I mean, that's all he ever talked about. His whole life was the Marines," Gooden said. "He was a funny kid and he always outworked everyone."
The news of Martino's death shocked and saddened people in his hometown of DuBois.
"My mom bawled. … She was like, 'Why Josh? He was such a nice kid,'" Gooden said.
Besides the Marines, there was something else Martino always talked about: his former high school sweetheart and current fiancée.
"They were always together. They were in love. They were cute," Gooden said.
Martino's family has asked for privacy during this difficult time.
