Family Identifies Huntingdon County Fire Victims

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

Relatives have identified the four people killed in a cabin fire in Huntingdon County on July 22.

In an obituary published in Thursday's Lewistown Sentinel, the victims were listed as Forrest Stitely, 35, his wife, Susan, 33, and their two daughters, Megan, 10, and Brooke, 8.

The fire happened at about 1 a.m. inside Rothrock State Forest in Logan Township, Huntingdon County.

The obituary stated Stitely worked for the Pennsylvania Bureau of Forestry in the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and that the family had been vacationing in the state-owned cabin when the fire happened.

A spokesperson for the funeral home handling the arraignments said that the arraignments will be finalized after the state police verify the victim's identities.

The fire was reported to be so intense that only the chimneys of the the cabin were left standing.

WJAC-TV contacted the DNCR but was told it would not be releasing any information regarding the incident, but it did confirm that one of the fire victims was a DCNR employee.

State police told WJAC-TV that it could take more than a month for DNA results from the fire victims autopsies to come back for positive identification.
