Federal grand jury indicts 15 suspects on drug charges

By Maria Miller and  WJAC Web Staff

A federal grand jury indicted 15 suspects in connection with a tri-county drug ring busted in May.

On Tuesday, the grand jury indicted people from Cambria, Indiana and Westmoreland counties.

Through controlled purchases and video surveillance, authorities said they were able to track down people who conspired to distribute heroin and prescription pills.

Investigators said the alleged ring leader was Kenneth Carter of Detroit, Mich., and police said the drugs were stashed at and distributed from a home on Bedford Street in Johnstown.

The multiagency investigation involved the court-authorized interception of drug-related telephone calls and text messages, officials said.

Authorities said their investigation is ongoing, and it's not clear if there are any more suspects.
