Ferndale Coach Steps Down After Movie Incident

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

A Cambria County coach was asked to resign as girls basketball coach after allowing the team to watch an R-rated movie.

A source close to the Ferndale girls varsity basketball team said Mae Altman, the former coach of the Ferndale Varsity basketball team, stepped down on Wednesday because she allowed the team to watch the movie "Old School" on the way home from a team trip to watch a college basketball game.

The source said Altman apologized for showing the film but was asked to resign immediately.

Eventually, the source said Altman was offered the option of staying until the end of the season, but declined the offer.

The team is 18-4 this season with two regular-season games remaining.

Channel 6 News learned there were nine other adults on the bus, including two teachers.

The superintendent of the Ferndale School District said she cannot comment on Altman's resignation because it is a personnel matter but did confirm the district is in the process of getting a new head coach.
