Fire Damages State College Apartment Building

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. —

An overnight fire forced residents to evacuate a State College high-rise building early Wednesday.

Alpha fire officials said one apartment unit in the Collegiate Arms Apartments on South Sparks Street was heavily damaged in the blaze.

The entire complex was evacuated around 3 a.m. and residents kept warm in a nearby building lobby. They were allowed to return about two hours later.

A fire marshal will investigate the cause, but fire crews believe a kitchen cooking accident is to blame.

Two residents have been displaced.
