Fire Destroys Clubhouse; Members Vow To Rebuild

A fire destroyed a sportsmen club in Somerset County but its members vow to rebuild again.

Fire Crews arrived at the Jerome Sportmen's Clubhouse just after noon on Thursday. Part of the building had already collapsed.

"There was flames all the way up through the roof, and over to the pavilion and out through the doors and coming out all the windows. It was fully involved when we pulled in," said Jerome Fire Chief Russell Miller.

Thursday evening a fire marshal was trying to figure out what caused the the fire, while club members tried to come to terms with the loss of a building many of them built with their own hands.

"It was a labor of love for club members from the community that build this structure," said Dave Strayer, Jerome Sportsmen's Association.

However, members are thankful it wasn't worse. The fire destroyed the pavilion and the clubhouse but not the shooting range.

"We got really dedicated leadership with the club members we will come out of the ashes just fine," said Strayer.
