EMPORIUM, Pa. —

A fire in Cameron County destroyed a home split into four apartments on Thursday morning.

An Emporium man is credited with saving the life of a bed-ridden woman, who was inside the building.  Police said Andrew Zimmer went into the burning building and was able to reach the woman, who was on a vetalator.  She was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital for observation.

Dispatchers told 6 News the apartment building caught fire just before 10.   Fire and smoke could be seen pouring from the building.

Fire officials on scene said they believe a 4-year-old child playing with a lighter started the fire.

Red Cross was on location assisting several people displaced by the fire.
