Fire Truck, Ambulance Collide While Responding To Crash

Four people were injured after a fire truck collided with an ambulance while responding to a crash.

Officials said two vehicles collided on an icy patch on Route 403 on the Paint and Quemahoning Township lines around 8:30 a.m.

Shortly after Conemaugh Township EMS crews arrived at the scene, a Holsopple fire truck slid on the ice and collided with an ambulance.

Four people were transported to the hospital via ambulance, and officials said up to five more went to the hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries. The conditions of the injured were not known as of noon.

The driver of the ambulance was only going about 15 miles per hour prior to the collision, officials said. Officials closed the road for some time after the crashes.

Weather was to blame for numerous other crashes, including several on Route 219 and Route 56 in Windber.
