Firefighter Dies Following Injuries

Blair County —

Over the weekend, during a live fire training drill, Robert Gallardy, Altoona Fire Department Captain and state inspector, was found unconscious on the basement floor of the Lewistown training building. He received third degree burns over 75 percent of his body. An investigation by the Fire Academy in Lewistown and by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration is underway. Gallardy's family and some of his fellow firefighters are in Allentown at a Burn Unit.
