On Monday, those who paid their last respects said his death will leave a noticeable void at the fire hall.

Levin was one of several firefighters who agreed to tend to the station's coal furnace in the evenings. Last week, he was on his way to perform that task when he suffered a heart attack. Levin was found by his fellow rescuers in his van on the side of the road.

Firefighters from across the region attended his funeral. He was buried with full honors, including a bagpipe and even a low-altitude flyover by the Stat Med-Evac helicopter.

Levin's friends reflected on his consistent and dependable service to his company. As if by fate, the service was punctuated by sirens and horns as two separate fire calls came in during the funeral.

Levin was 58 years old.
