Jerome Fire Chief Nick Panasci said the boy was last seen by family members around two in the afternoon. A search of the area ended with the discovery of the child in the water.
The boy was taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center where efforts to revive him failed shortly before 9 pm Thursday. Police are investigating how the boy drowned.
