Flight 93 National Memorial

Final Five Designs On Display

Somerset —

When you walk into the room at Georgian Place, you're surrounded by the five final entries honoring the lives lost in Flight 93. Now what's special about these entries is you get to see them in their life-like, 3D form.

The entry Disturbed Harmony caught Chuck and Mickey Slick's eye when it was among the 1,100 entries. They hoped it would make the final five. Sure enough it did just that, but what is it they like so much?

Chuck Slick says, "Simplicity I think and still a sense of serene comfort. It just seemed like it was a good memorial to the people."

The entry Crescent of Embrace caught the eye of several others. The description boards show how this particular Flight 93 Memorial changes with the seasons.

Bruce Thomas of Somerset County says, "I'm interested in something that will preserve the serenity of the area, the warmth and still show respect for the passengers and crew and what they did for us, for our country."

All of the entries are depicted in a 3D form and the concepts are described through boards on the wall. These designs are making history as this is the first time an entire national park site is created through a design competition. Everyone has a favorite. Which one will be yours?

The first thing you want to do when you walk through the door is pick up a comment card and pen so you can list what you like and don't like about each entry. This will be turned into the jury who will choose the final design. You can come the Georgian Place Wednesday through Sunday from noon to seven to see all the entries.
