Flue fire destroys Jefferson Co. home

By Brittany Boyer

UNION TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

A Jefferson County family is homeless following a mid-morning fire at their Union Township home.

The fire started shortly after 10 a.m. on Thursday.

Officials said the homeowner was home at the time of the fire and noticed a small fire started within the piping of his wood stove.

Firefighters said the homeowner attempted to put the fire out, but moments later it rekindled.

Corsica Fire Chief, Pat McFall told 6 News that the blaze was difficult to put out due to the type of the construction of the home.

Everyone made it out of the home safely.

A state police fire marshal has ruled the fire accidental.

Damage is estimated at $300,000.
