Forestry Officials: Brush Fire Danger Low

PINE TOWNSHIP, Pa. —

You could call it the upside to all the wet weather we've had this spring.

According to forestry officials, the ground is so wet that, unless we have a drought, it's hard to see any significant danger of brush fires for the rest of the year.

In local forests, plants look lush and green. Forestry officials said, beyond the wet conditions, there's just no dead or dry materials that that will burn.

The officials added that the danger for brush and forest fires hasn't been extremely high since late March and early April. In fact, WJAC-TV was on the scene in March while crews fought a brush fire in Woodward Township.

Even though the ground is wet, forestry officials stress, you should still burn responsibly. But even they admitted, we may be out of the danger zone for a while.

Several airplanes are based across the state every year to fight wildfires. Many weren't used this year. In fact, the airplane at Mid-State Airport didn't move before it was called to fight fires in the Western United States.
