Former Doctor Charged With Prescription Fraud

CLEARFIELD, Pa. —

Investigators said a former oncology doctor at Clearfield Hospital is facing multiple charges following a three-year investigation.

According to a news release from Attorney General Tom Corbett's office, authorities said more than $44,000 worth of medications were found inside Dr. Amer Khouri's office after he was dismissed in 2007.

Investigators said Khouri prescribed Actiq to cancer patients and told them he issued the wrong dosage and had his patients return the medication through his office's back door in exchange for an altered prescription and a voucher to pay for the medication.

Actiq is a narcotic painkiller that looks like a lollipop. It is a berry-flavored lozenge on a stick, and contains the synthetic opoiod, fentanyl.

Khouri, who now lives in Erie, is facing charges of fraud, forgery and prescribing a controlled substance not in good faith.

There's no word on when Khouri will return to Clearfield County to face the charges.

A Clearfield Hospital spokeswoman told WJAC-TV over the phone Tuesday that they have no comment.
